What the Toll Tells
This ain't no toe-tapping music - it's pure, whiskey-drinkin', foot-stompin' rock 'n roll. Childhood buddies Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel recently rose from the streets of San Francisco to the hallowed halls of Conor Oberst's Saddle Creek Records. What got the king of cawing crooners interested? Maybe the fact that the duo's music sounds as appropriate outside the BART station as it does on the Sunset Strip. Two Gallants' sweet Americana is immediately pleasing, and the band's intelligent lyrics have a tendency to sneak up on you later - that is, once the bourbon haze wears off.
