Young hotshots Tokyo Police Club rocketed to blog buzz not only because of their cool name, but also their cool songs, which never lasted a second longer than required. Sadly, the band's first proper album finds them dulled and slowed, with muddy production caked on. You can hear solid songs fighting to get out, but Elephant Shell is too staid to ever compare to the high-impact thrills of those first two EPs. Maybe it's a grower, but then again, maybe not.
