The Game of Monogamy

10/29/2010 | The Onion AV Club | www.avclub.com | Live Show Preview
Although his fantastic, long-running indie band Cursive remains his primary concern, Tim Kasher frequently takes breaks to dabble in side projects like The Good Life, a screenplay, and now his solo debut, The Game Of Monogamy. On The Game, Kasher's croon is set to upbeat pop-orchestral passages and Cursive's rhythmic post-punk, often belied by reflective lyrics from a man buried by a mid-life crisis. ("When I was young I believed in love, but hey, I also believed in God.") It's another heady, excellent record that pushes Kasher's habitual oversharing to even more uncomfortably enjoyable ends. Joining him is the recently re-formed Azure Ray, fresh off the recent album Drawing Down the Moon, which finds them delivering a typically dreamy collection of elegant, melancholy pop songs.
