This three-piece Toronto band has some MAJOR buzz circling around this fantastic debut album, with very good reason. Singer-songwriter Nils Edenloff is like the Jeff Magnum (Neutral Milk Hotel) for a new generation of listeners. His nasally, simple vocal style is a comforting reminder of Magnum's delivery, but Edenloff and his crew demonstrate a new penchant for front-and-centre, rootsy indie rock. Most numbers are downright catchy, hand-clapping, danceable ditties while the occasional appearance of Amy Cole on backup vocals chimes in at just the right moments. What started out as a project to cure Edenloff's homesickness of Edmonton has now created easily the most listenable and memorable records of 2009. Do yourself a favour and get this album immediately.
