We could spend hours gushing about Laura Burhenn's voice. What makes the Mynabirds so great is that these delicate and sad bits of old-fashioned, countryfied soul-folk never feel consciously retro. With the grace of Dusty Springfield and vulnerability of perspective about the past, each song on this gorgeous debut deserves to be digested with hot chocolate, a fire and tears. Not too shabby live either.
