Entertaining, but still kind of crummy: simulacrummy. You know how if someone mentions the sixties, you envision sort of a collage of icons like hippies and rainbows and volkswagens. It's what comes to mind even though pop culture was nowhere near as concentrated. So these guys like Gary Numan and Duran Duran and want to make that very clear, via design, sound and overall slant. However, if the album were taken on the Antiques Roadshow, it would be quickly defiled as a fraud. Just look at those streaks of Radiohead and Trans Am! Good for parties where you want everyone dressed up like it's the early eighties.
