Let It Rest
3/18/2003 | Sentimentalist | Album Review
This is the latest Saddle Creek offering from the Chapel Hill quartet with the penchant for catchy CD titles about WWII. Brace yourself: the band immediately sweeps you off your feet with their rough and ready upbeat sound. “The Approaching Dawn" combines angsty fun with an off kilter beat that refuses to let you rest. Though singer Matt doesn't have the most perfect vocals in indie band history,, he isn't afraid to let his feelings show. On the stark “Frozen in Mid-Gesture" his voice goes up a couple notches and his phrases are shortened, creating a somewhat haunting picture. This CD is an invigorating burst of energy and emotion, surprising and satisfying.
