three bombs

Son, Ambulance takes a child-like approach to songwriting with a playful execution in its performance. Euphemystic is the band's first full-length after appearing opposite Bright Eyes on the split release Oh Holy Fools. Drummer Jeff Koster playfully bangs behind frontman Joe Knapp's loungy ramblings. The songs have a definitive lightheartedness to them but lack any specific sense of humor. Jangly guitar and melodic keys carry the tunes from the Latin sounds of "Maria in Motion" to the warm, Beatlesque "A Book Laid on It's Binding." Euphemystic is successful as an experiment in songwriting and performance, but Son, Ambulance needs time to tour and grow before it will deliver a truly great record.
