This is the band that you've undoubtedly heard about fue to their split release with Bright Eyes earlier this year. Son, Ambulance has a slightly different tone than other Saddle Creek acts, more upbeat than Bright Eyes. poppier than Cursive and not as complex as Lullaby For The Working Class. The band is led by young singer/songwriter Joe Knapp. The melodies are catchy and the songwriting is creative and stylish. "An Instant Birth" provides memorable moments with strong backing from bassist Robert Little, drummer Jeff Koster and keyboardist Jeff Tafolla. Some moments dip a little too far into the super-dramatic sound that the emo/indie-rock format is famous for, such as the somewhat dragging "A Book Laid On It's Binding." However, moments such as the bossonova-styled chants in"Maria in Motion" and the sweet, sweeping sounds of "The Anonymous" set this album apart and show definite promise for this developing act.
