This is new since the split with Bright Eyes. On this full length we have more of what I expected this band to sound like. The split was good but this shows more promising that the band will be into strengthening and structuring a sound that is of their own. On this
album there's an array of influential sounds that come to mind. The main backbone sound is Joe Knapp's soft-spoken voice then layered in a 70's psychedelic disco funk but not funky feeling that delivers well. It's weird to really pin point this sound but that you can definitely hear a Midwestern emo sound in it all. It's weird how musical sounds from the past will resurface and we will call it something else like "indie pop" or "French pop". But really it's a style of music that was once quite around a lot and in your grand parents and parents houses. Yea, this is so 70's. Ma and Pa would love this, and pleasurably so do I.
