Having never seen Sebastien Grainger live in concert before last Sunday night, I had no idea what to expect. I guess I could have listened to his music before the show via iTunes, but I don't like to do that. I look forward to a concert more if I am going to have the chance to hear the artist's music for the first time live in person. It definitely beats checking out new songs on a MySpace page, that's for sure. Mind you, this show was also the first time I was hearing Metric's music. I know I'm not the best person to make the conclusion that Sebastien Grainger was a good choice for the opening slot on the Metric tour. However, after hearing Grainger's music followed by Metric's music in one night, I can see the similarity in each band's music. I honestly enjoyed Sebastien Grainger's set, which prepped me for the style of music that Metric would be playing for the rest of the night. I should mention to those of you not yet familiar with Grainger, that the complete name of his band is Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains. At this show, Grainger was accompanied by his band The Mountains. Grainger sang lead vocals and played guitar for every song with his band members handling drums, bass, synthesizer, and backing vocals. I did some research on Grainger and discovered that he is part owner of Giant Studios in Toronto with Jimmy Shaw (guitarist) of Metric. This business partnership and/or friendship could also be the reason why both bands hailing from Canada are on tour together. Although it helps that each artist's style/genre of music is more alike than different.
