Though local philoso-punk braniac Daniel Pujol and his PUJOL have popped up on house-show bills and friends' record-release shows and will be a part of this week's Freakin' Weekend festivities, the past year has mostly been about crafting a follow-up to 2012's Saddle Creek debut United States of Being. Well, as Mr. Pujol tells Vice, the forthcoming record has a name, and that name is KLUDGE.
Recorded in a Mt. Juliet strip mall, characterized by Pujol as sounding like "a cartoon nightmare" and slated for a May 20 release (pre-orders are available here and will ship out May 6), KLUDGE features 11 tracks (see the album art and full track list after the jump). Among those tracks is "Pitch Black," a bopping, three-minute fuzz-pop burner that elicited this reaction from the anonymous Vice blogger: "My jaw hit the floor and my penis stood up and started doing the Mashed Potato for a minute." The guy's a regular Thoreau. Anyway, stream the tune below. In a Facebook post, Pujol says the song is "about someone so alienated by contemporary language and communication he/she surveys old matinee movies on their lunch break and cries."

Catch PUJOL Thursday night at The End. I bumped into Pujie just last week, and he told me that former Heavy Cream drummer (and current Adia Victoria drummer) Tiffany Minton will be poundin' the old skins for PUJOL at upcoming gigs. Dig it.
