Orenda Fink is ready with her fourth solo album.
"Blue Dream" will be released on Saddle Creek Records on Aug. 19.
The prolific artist - four albums with Azure Ray, four solo and one in O+S plus a bunch with other projects - has always explored mysticism and spirituality, and she says "Blue Dream" will dive into death.
After the death of Fink's dog, Wilson, "she found herself on a deeply personal search for the meaning of death," according to a press release. "Pieces of answers, coded in riddle, came to her in dreams. Her dreams began to tell a story - about life and death and the afterlife, reality, and the fine line between the conscious and subconscious world."
"Ace of Cups" is the album's first single. The tarot-titled tune begins with a shimmering gong-like intro before drifting into a dreamy song about desire, happiness and love. If these beats were programmed instead of played by an actual drummer, it would easily fit the mold of a Massive Attack trip-hop tune.
I dig it.

The album was produced Fink's husband, Todd Fink of The Faint, along with Ben Brodin at Omaha's ARC studios.
