Summer Of Fear

The first thing one notices about Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson - OK, after his name - is his connections. Three-quarters of Grizzly Bear aided the Brooklyn songwriter on his self-titled 2008 debut, and TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone produced last year's Summer of Fear. Defined by his anxious vocals, Robinson laces lush pop with an undercurrent of paranoia. He's utterly singular, as is fellow Brooklyn denizen Shilpa Ray. Backed by the colorfully named Happy Hookers, Ray sets her punch-drunk voice and savage wit against dark, filmy arrangements. She's as likely to cite Law & Order in a song as break out a devastating cover of "I Only Have Eyes for You."
