In May 2011, Maria Taylor opened for Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit at the Haunt, impressing the audience with her finely honed songs that blended pop and folk influences. Saturday, the Alabama-based Taylor will return to the same venue to headline her own show and promote her stellar new album, “Something About Knowing.”

Taylor, who is part of the indie pop duo Azure Ray and has toured with Bright Eyes, worked with producer Mike Mogis on the new album, her fifth solo release and first since becoming a mother. There are all sorts of cool sonic textures throughout the album — drum loops, fuzzy guitars, acoustic strumming, keyboards and much more — all in service of Taylor’s insightful lyrics and winsome vocals.

“This record has the spirit of ‘This is how I feel now, and these are all the elements that brought me here,’” Taylor said on the Saddle Creek Records web site. “I listened to my previous records and went in the studio wanting to take the best elements of each of them … I feel like I really conquered something on this one.”
