Heavy Hands

The (NE) stands for Nebraska - apparently there's another Ladyfinger out there. And the four members of the group are compatriots and/or former bandmates of the indie-rocking Saddle Creek stable.

Ladyfinger (NE), however, plays rock (OK, "post-hardcore" if you need to narrow it down). Fans of Drive Like Jehu and At the Drive-In won't find "Heavy Hands" unfamiliar.

The best descriptions for the disc, though, are powerful and passionate. The band plays with the manic intensity of an engineer speeding his train into a hairpin curve. Whether singing about matters personal or political, Chris Machmuller makes it sound like a matter of life and death. "Don't Lose Your Shadow" should go on any best-of 2006 playlist and the rest isn't far behind.
