Heavy Hands

One wouldn't think of Omaha, NE's Saddle Creek Records as the final destination of a rock record. A real, heavy rock record that's as subtle as a kick in the teeth. However, going against the grain, the label that has brought you Bright Eyes and The Faint now presents Ladyfinger (NE). Featuring current members of Mayday along with various other Omaha musicians, Ladyfinger (NE) touts the influence of Drive Like Jehu, Motorhead, and the Jesus Lizard on their debut LP Heavy Hands. While musically they have the bombast and the chops throughout, the booming vocals of Chris Machmuller do not mesh very well with the rest of the band. While not poor by any means, they do have a certain Chris Cornell quality to them that just does not fit. Obviously, this is a matter of taste, so take it with a grain of salt. The music found within this disc is just fine. Vocal-wise, the decision is up to you.
