I walked into The Glasshouse while Austin, TX band, Ume, was midway through their set. I was very curious to see this band's live performance having heard good things, and while I had listened to them prior to this evening, I was not at all prepared for what I was about to see. This band is awesome in every sense of the word. Lead singer/guitarist Lauren Larson, shreds and owns every minute of it. This is a band that should definitely be on your radar.

As soon as headliner, Cursive, was setting up, the main floor quickly filled with in. It seemed they all had the same intentions of saving a good spot to feast their eyes on the man that is Tim Kasher. The lights dimmed and Cursive took the stage to a loud and rambunctious crowd. They quickly started their set with "Drunken Birds" off of last week's release I Am Gemini. For being a new song, everyone seemed to know the lyrics and quickly tried to match the band's intensity. "Big Bang" and "Sierra" followed which seemed to send shock waves through the crowd with some singing at the the top of their lungs, while others jumped up and down, and there was even a bit of crowd surfing. They intelligently sandwiched "A Red So Deep" off fan favorite Domestica, between new tracks "The Cat and Mouse" and "A Birthday Bash." The next three songs "Driftwood; A Fairy Tale," "We're Going To Hell", and "The Martyr" were an all out sing-along. The added horns to the songs off Domestica, gave them a more dramatic feel. There was also something eery about hearing the entire crowd chant "We're Going To Hell" and Tim Kasher flashing us a devilish grin.

The band ended their set with "From The Hips" which was a perfect closer, starting off slow then erupting into a burst of sound and energy. The band came out for an encore after a brief break or a few drinks as Id like to imagine. The encore included songs "Dorothy At Forty," "Sink To The Beat," and of course "Art Is Hard." At this point, I had been completely subdued by the band's performance and wasn't entirely conscious of my surroundings. All in all, it was a great evening and an amazing performance by Cursive.
