When multi-instrumentalist Joel Peterson, from Saddle Creek retro new wave band The Faint, was asked to write the soundtrack for a friend's short video project, Broken Spindles was born. The music Peterson created for the film was a mixture of synthesized and electronic sounds meshed with live instruments; very dancey, but melodic. The first Broken Spindles record was released on Tiger Style, but Saddle Creek grabbed Peterson back for a second record, Fulfilled/Complete.

Fulfilled/Complete is different from the first, self-titled Broken Spindles release in that there are vocals, and a more distinct bridge is made between classical music and electronica. The songs also don't melt into each other as much. "Fall In and Down On" features dramatic strings in crescendos, and "Song No Song" is high-key piano in a music-box style echo, with a creepy doll-house edge to it. "To Die, for Death" is reminiscent of the work Moby did with old blues songs on Play, and "Move Away" sounds as if it was ripped straight from a Faint record.

Live, Broken Spindles is a multi-media endeavor, with films featuring white, blocky paper men walking around, the same figures that are on the covers of both Broken Spindles records. Peterson embraces Broken Spindles' soundtrack and filmic qualities, butFulfilled/Complete has songs strong enough to stand on their own, without any other media enhancement.
