The People's Key

Today the indie/folk rock band Bright Eyes announced more dates for their 2011 tour, and that the Chicago show on March 15, 2011 is sold out. It is also highly likely with this new slew of tour dates that Bright Eyes will be playing at the 2011 Coachella Festival in California which is from April 15th - 17th. Bright Eyes last confirmed/announced tour date is in Pomona, CA on April 13th. Really, so his tour happens to end in California the day before Coachella starts and you expect us to not make the assumption he will be playing it. The 2011 winter/spring Bright Eyes tour marks the singer-songwriter and guitarist Conor Oberst based bands first time hitting the road for the first time in three years. There were Bright Eyes Chicago Lollapalooza 2010 rumors, but that never came through. Bright Eyes always had a close knit following which only seemed to increase with the bands three year hiatus. Known for his emo-esque no holds bar lyrics, Conor Oberst has not released an album under the name Bright Eyes since 2007's Cassadaga. Under the band Bright Eyes he never received massive amounts of mainstream commercial success, he has always stayed just under the radar but I think with the much anticipated 2011 album The People's Key he will see himself shot into the spotlight. He always got a lot of critical success, but never obtained that sold out arena type of success. Frankly, I don't even think Conor Oberst wants that type of success. Bright Eyes' seventh studio album, The People's Key will be released in the US on February 15, 2011 and February 14, 2011 everywhere else. In case you are not familiar with Conor Oberst, he took a break from Bright Eyes to write, record, release and tour with Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band. The band was composed of composed of Nik Freitas (guitar), Taylor Hollingsworth (guitar), Macey Taylor (bass), Nate Walcott (keyboards/organ) and Jason Boesel (drums) and and they released two albums, 2008's Conor Oberst, and 2009's Outer South. Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band actually played a sold out show in Chicago at the Metro on July 14, 2009 and despite people screaming out Bright Eyes songs for Conor, he stuck with stricktly performing Mystic Valley Band songs. Conor Oberst was also somewhat intoxicated throughout the set, and by somewhat I mean yes, yes he was, but he still managed to put on a great performance (Chicago concert review Conor Oberst). If you are planning to see Bright Eyes, or are on the fence about it, purchase your tickets now because the entire tour is likely to sell out. I am surprised that he is only play one date shows, especially in Chicago. There is also no room on the touring schedule for a second Chicago show to be added, so good luck searching Craigslist for cheap tickets. The first leg of the tour has now confirmed label mates Cursive (March 2nd _ March 6th) and Mynabirds (March 10th _ March 17th) as support. Bright Eyes will also play a handful of shows overseas this February, including a date at the Scala in London (with Tim Kasher as supporting act). As always, check www.conoroberst.com for ticket links as they become available. Bright Eyes will release the band's seventh studio album The People's Key on February 15th, 2011 on Saddle Creek Records. Recorded in Omaha, Nebraska, at ARC Studios, The People's Key was produced by Mike Mogis and engineered by Mogis and Andy Lemaster.
