Letting off the Happiness

Excellent collection of furiously emotional home-fi songs distinguished by
dark lyrics (example: "I had a brother once/he drowned in a bathtub before he
had ever learned how to talk ... you cried but no one came and the water filled
your tiny lungs) and solid songwriting. It would be quite erroneous to
compare this to Elliot Smith or Lou Barlow as the label's catalog does (why is
it that whenever anyone writes songs like this, they immediately drop those
two names - it's lack of reference, I suppose). Think raw passion, a touch of
country (but just a touch, mind you) and a lo-fi sensibility. This is about
as close to perfect as a record can get. Highly recommended.
