The Indie 100

Performing Songwriter's 100 Most Influential Independent Artists of the Past 15 Years

The Entrepreneurs:

Conor Oberst and his ever-changing lineup of Omaha-based musical comrades make up Bright Eyes. In 2002 the group became one of the year's most celebrated new artists with Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground, which sold over 250,000 copies, was a breakthrough for the label he co-founded—Saddle Creek Records—and set new benchmarks for the indie movement. Oberst started the label Team Love in 2004 and released albums by Jenny Lewis, Mars Black and a dozen others, offering complete albums for download, at no cost, inn addition to traditional CD sales.
