The prolific and ever passionate Conor Oberst, better known by his group identity Bright Eyes, is poised for a major breakout with the simultaneous release of two vital new albums on Saddle Creek. Both are highly literate, richly melodic and emotion-filled sets evoking comparisons to Bob Dylan and Paul Simon in their fiery, troubadour primes. Go first for the acoustic folk-inclined set "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning," which includes a guest appearance by Emmylou Harris and the Internet download fave "Lua," a fevered tale from New York's sordid underbelly. Then move to "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn," a more band-centric affair featuring appearances by Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
