Bright Eyes, fronted by the enigmatic and glum Conor Oberst, have nearly put together the perfect record. Not perfect like every song is a work of genius, but perfect like you love it or you hate it. Sometimes coming off a bit youngish, at other times revealing a soul far older than his years, Oberst eloquently delivers his somewhat tortured songs, making each one twist and grind around his extremely personal tales. More folk than rock, more gloom than glee, this album overcomes some moments of indifference with several mesmerizing gestures.
