Stefanie Drootin-Senseney, founder and director of Omaha Girls Rock, and bass player with The Good Life, takes on a new collaboration with her husband, Chris Senseney ? Big Harp (Chris on vocals, guitar, keyboards; Stefanie on bass, backing vocals). The duo debuts their first album, White Hat, at Slowdown this Wednesday, September 7 at Slowdown (details below). To be released September 13 on Saddle Creek, White Hat was recorded by Rilo Kiley bassist Pierre de Reeder at LA's Nightingale Studios. The album's eleven tracks have been described as "un-fussed over, with the spirited energy and honest emotion of live performance. Drawing from the classic country and folk of Senseney s childhood and anchored by Drootin s rock-solid rhythms and indie-punk roots, White Hat contains echoes of artists from Townes Van Zandt to Nick Cave, Willie Nelson to Captain Beefheart." Though currently based in Los Angeles, the pair have long connections to Omaha (Chris is a Valentine, Nebraska, native) and recently stopped by the brand new Saddle Creek Shop in Omaha to record the video for "Everybody Pays". Made with help from Love Drunk Studio, the video is available now on Hear Nebraska and you can check it out here: http://lovedrunkstudio.com/HTML/bigharp.html Drootin, a member of The Good Life, has toured and recorded with acts such as Bright Eyes, She & Him and Azure Ray. It was actually on a tour with The Good Life that she was swept off her feet by the handsome guitarist in the opening band, Art in Manila. Drootin is also the founder of Omaha Girls Rock!, a rock n roll camp for girls that held its inaugeral session earlier this summer. I had the pleasure of featuring her on the blog a few months ago?to see her q-and-a with Les Femmes Folles click here. The loving duo also put their music expertise to work, making a mix tape for MAGNET Magazine, where they were featured online; check it out: magnetmagazine.com. Drootin's childhood dream was posted on pastemagazine.com, a music, film and culture site, featuring "50 Musicians and Their Childhood Dream Jobs" - check out what she said! In the meantime, be there for Big Harp's CD release show at Slowdown, 729 N. 14th Street, September 7, 9p.m. (doors open at 8p.m.), also featuring David Dondero. $10 all seats, for tickets visit theslowdown.com. Become a fan of Big Harp and see their tour dates on Facebook! You can purchase White Hat and download "Everybody Pays" on the Saddle Creek website, store.saddle-creek.com.
