Husband-and-wife duo Chris Senseney (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Stefanie Drootin-Senseney (bass, backing vocals) follow the kind of narrative that makes you believe these sorts of everyday romances are real- and they're living proof. Senseney, from a small town in Nebraska, while Stefanie grew up in LA. They have two babies and somehow also, a band (called Big Harp).Drootin, a member of The Good Life, has toured and recorded with acts such as Bright Eyes, She & Him and Azure Ray, and on tour is where she met guitarist in an opening band, Art in Manila. Their debut LP White Hat is coming out via Saddle Creek, something that was organically recorded in only three days by Rilo Kiley bassist Pierre de Reeder.Drootin is also the founder of Omaha Girls Rock!, a rock n roll camp for girls that opens its doors in July 2011.After several experiences where Drootin was assumed to be a band member's girlfriend or merch girl, she was tired of female stereotypes in music. Omaha Girls Rock! is an effort to help young girls feel empowered, "Our ultimate goal is to provide a support system enabling and encouraging girls to design their own futures and to realize those designs? Our workshops are not just about music, though that's a lot of it since it's a rock camp," she said. "The workshops also deal with self esteem, body image, stuff so girls feel confident no matter how they're treated. I feel like I was lucky that I had the confidence to be able to deal with a lot of the stuff that goes along with being a girl in a band." Man, I like this lady, already!White Hat will be released September 13 on Saddle Creek. They're playing a show in LA tomorrow night at Good Hurt.
