12/01/2002 | Rock Sound | Album Review
This is a compelling and deeply beautiful record consisting of a mere six songs. 'November' hinges around the vocal harmonies of Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor. Backed by restrained guitars and cello it is the sound of longheld secrets being told in hushed tones. It haunts the listener long after the CD finishes and has hypnotic, tranquil qualities so rarely found in contemporary music. These are songs that are best heard live, and it's brilliant that the dreamy fell to the music has been captured on this recording. This is not to suggest that the songs don't have individual personalities. Azure Ray has the ability to unsettle as well as soothe. This is simply an outstanding record.
