Every Day and Every Night

11/01/1999 | The Big Takeover | Album Review
Touching upon lyrical brilliance that ranges from Nick Cave to the more obscure Simon Joyner, BRIGHT EYES makes me feel like crying barely a minute into the CD. It hurts me, the raw emotion in the vocals, the melodrama in the melody. At the same time it fills my heart. That point where sadness is so overwhelming that it becomes almost uplifting. It makes me feel, and
that's the best part. The songs of CONOR OBERST are poetry in motion. Against the swell of the bass, the alcoholic chaos of the rhythm section, I sway. I swoon. I want to listen to this until the pain goes away, but every song makes the ache seem that much more special.
