Lifted or The Story is in the Soil....

When it comes to constructing songs, Conor Oberst seems to know exactly when and where to put the notes and vocal melodies. This may come from 8 years of writing songs or from the help of all his closest friends.

Well, It dosn't matter where it comes from, because Oberst and friends come close to perfection with Lifted or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground.

It's tough to put into words as to what ths album does for the listener. The album touches on so many styles of music from the waltz of "False Advertising" to the countryesque ballad "Make War." Over all the instrumentation, samples and voices it collaborates into a sound like none other. Lifted is far from being a "concept" album, but it is hard to flip through the tracks without listening to the whole piece.

Oberst expands lyrically and shows that he truly is a poet. He has seem to put behind him the desolation on releases such as Fevers and Mirrors. He sings more about why we are here, being thankful and taking that second look as to why we do things the way we do, especially as Americans.

Oberst likes to tell stories and I highly suggest you put your ear to the ground for the 13 of them on this album.
