letting off the Happiness

If not for the distorted acoustics and ballsy arrangements, somebody probably would have branded this the Emo Album of the Millenium. But Conor Oberst's grim romantics defy the laws of rock critic pseudo science. Other singer/songwriters can make the whole ripped-from-the-diary thing look easy. By the time Oberst finished a set at the Khyber last fall, he looked like he'd just lost the Tour de France-sweaty, exhausted, defeated by his own art.
