Few phenoms stuck with "the new Dylan" tag live to see the next day. A rare, and most welcome exception is gifted 27- year-old Conor Oberst, whose sixth album under the Bright Eyes banner equals anything Sir Bob has given us recently. With the formal addition of longtime collaborators Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott, Bright Eyes is no longer simply a one-man vehicle. Exit the Dylan talk and enter newfound comparisons to The Band, whose rootsy sound provides the foundation for Oberst's creaky voice and world-weary songcraft. The rough edges are gone, but the Americana framework works in the hands of this talented Nebraska trio. This is Bright Eyes' moment in the sun. And as a unit, it is their finest to date.
