I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning

Less than two weeks ago, we here at Pitchfork sensed a profound glitch in the fundamental order of the universe when Bright Eyes' simultaneously released singles "Lua" and "Take It Easy (Love Nothing)" charted #1 and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Sales chart. With said universe reeling in anticipation of the (also simultaneous) January 25th release of I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, the real knockout blow is yet to come: Bright Eyes has announced that they will embark on two separate tours in 2005-- one for each album.

According to the band's label, Saddle Creek, the first of the two tours, in support of I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, will start January 14th, and will feature a smaller, more intimate Bright Eyes lineup better suited to the acoustic-based album, with special guests and opening bands drifting in and out, among them Jimmy Tamborello of The Postal Service, Bright Eyes' producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Mogis, and members of other Saddle Creek bands like Rilo Kiley, Cursive, Now It's Overhead, and the Faint. Them dates:

Meanwhile, the second leg of the tour (in support of Digital Ash), which is slated to kick off sometime in May or June, will feature The Faint as both opening act and backing band for Oberst, much like The Flaming Lips did for Beck way back in the '02, albeit likely without the megaphone and dancing flashlights. Unfortunately. In between, Bright Eyes will open for R.E.M. on a short tour of Australia and New Zealand. Dates:
